If I were to say that "human beings are selfish" right now, I wouldn't purely be referring to the kind of destructive greed that ignores anybody else's needs, I'd be referring to the fact that we, in the most literal sense of the word, care the most about our self. Most of us can sympathise and the good ones among us will do a lot to help those who are in pain or in need of help, but the true altruists who solely care about others and pay no heed to their own welfare... well, they're few and far between.
My name's Leonidas. Sometimes I write things on here. If you enjoy things, feel free to read these things! Click here for an introduction. If you have thoughts, please write a comment and make me happy :).

Leonidas and religion (Pt. III)
So I joined a great group on Facebook for atheists that's just started up yesterday. Lovely people there, and it didn't take much at all to start a multitude of debates among us atheists. One such debate reminded me of a common theme in religious arguments.

The gender divide (and Male Sexism)
So I was buying presents earlier this evening (only just managed to get to the card shop before they closed,) and it was after I had secured cards for my friends that I realised I was having a lot of trouble finding something for said friends, all of whom are girls. It occurred to me that, while I'm a very feminine guy, I still don't understand girls that well. (Nor does my memory help, I can never remember who likes what, who'd wear what, etc., and clothes are a no-go due to my naivety.) At times like these, it really brings to the forefront the huge gap that is only separated by one Y chromosome.

I have had an amazing week so far!
No, nothing serious this time, just some innocent ramblings! <3

A rumination on ruminations II
One of the last English assessments I undertook was a presentation on something that we hate, for which I chose: people who don't think. My last Business Studies lesson involved having to come up with something which we could talk about for a few minutes and ostensibly "teach the class", again I chose thinking as a topic (although I missed the second part of the lesson because of an assembly, so someone else read it out >_>)
And so I wanted to touch upon it one more time, on a place where there's a (admittedly very small) chance that people might see it.

Cross-dressing
We live in a strange old world. A world with flashing traffic lights and glass windows and ticking clocks and simple light-switches and extended noun phrases. All these inventions, bizarre when viewed objectively, but that help us get by in day to day life. Not everything is so useful, though. Traffic lights control transport, windows regulate heat, clocks keep the time, light-switches make it easier to see what you're doing. But is there any real need for make-up, for art, for puzzles and posters? Well, art and posters are for enjoyment and viewing, and make-up to make you look "nice", and puzzles to challenge your mind, but there's no inherent need for them. We could survive without them for sure.
But that doesn't mean people won't still play the necessity card when they hear about someone cross-dressing.

Better than = Good mentality
I noticed a cereal box just earlier this evening that said on the side that Plastic isn't widely recycled, but Cardboard is (recycling ftw?) and below that it commented that 90% of its box was made of recycled materials. That got me thinking. Here I am staring at a box and instead of reaching for the originally intended custard creams I think "...What about the other 10%? That's still 10% of waste that you're chucking out there."

Midnight
Ah, so beautiful at this hour. And so tired. I really shouldn't be staying up so late with school and all but I'm one of those peeps who can't be bothered to go to bed until I absolutely feel I must.
This post was so short to the point of being pointless but, whatever :).

The joy of writing
So, I got my results back on my English assessment today. 20/20 (squee!) The awesome part is, I've got full marks in the past couple of assessments too. The most recent one was a relatively simple task: write an editorial on a subject that you hate. This was a follow-up from the previous two adjacent assessments, where we had to explain the same, except in the form of a presentation, then a discussion. In the former assessment, my chosen topic was to take a rip out of the very thing I was undertaking: exams.
Believe me, though I don't actually have many deep-rooted feelings of hatred for our dear friend the examination, I had fun writing that one...

We're all hypocrites
I don't claim that I'm consistent with my beliefs and actions, that I'm free from being a hypocrite... but I think very few people can truly claim that they do. We all lapse from time to time. The problem comes in drawing the line.
